On May 12th, 1937, in the throes of the Great Depression, a community of families and business owners came together to face the financial struggles that plagued their community.  Today, 85 years later, we’re proud to carry on that legacy of banking service in Delaware with affordable loan rates, exceptional service, and a particular emphasis on community support. 

Building Stability in Unsteady Times

Our origin story is one of perseverance, community, and care. Back in 1937, the Great Depression made life financially challenging for people in the community. And while banking institutions were there, most were unable to support the community’s need for small loans. So, after hearing about the benefits of a locally owned and operated credit union, a group of workers from the Dupont Experimental Facility pooled their resources to create DEXSTA Federal Credit Union. 

That heroic act of care all those years ago serves as a reminder of our mission: to support the community and offer a broad range of financial services that allow everyone to prosper. To this day, we continue to support the efforts of local residents as they finance their first home, buy their first car, or become debt-free. 

Developing Services That Serve Everyone

Over the years, DEXSTA has grown from the original 22 DuPont Employees. We now service over 40,000 members in Delaware and Maryland. And as our membership continues to grow, so do our services. What started as an affordable lending option for the community has grown to offer a wide breadth of services including auto loans, home loans, checking and savings accounts, and even financial literacy resources.   

We offer many services that support our members’ needs. Because we’re a not-for-profit organization, you won’t find hidden fees or predatory interest rates in our services. Instead, we offer benefit-rich accounts and simple interest loans that make saving easy and borrowing affordable. 

We also offer flexible personal loans to help our members take big steps in life, like remodeling their homes or tying the knot. With fast loan approval and low barriers to entry, we make it easy for members to access funds when they need them. Providing top-notch banking services is excellent, but at DEXSTA, we’re committed to serving the community through more than just our services. That’s why we give back as much as possible. Through collaboration and donations to local charitable organizations like the Sunday Breakfast Mission, Ronald McDonald House, and the Boys and Girls Club, we can give back to the community that’s supported our credit union for so many years.
